Lucas Smithers
Founder & Managing Director
Looking after Australian families — and the generations that follow.
Lucas Smithers has spent his whole career helping Australians feel genuinely looked after with their money. He started straight out of school as an administrator in his family's financial planning business with AMP, became an adviser at 19, and by 23 was running the family firm. In 2016 he made the bold decision to start again from scratch and founded Fintor — and he was privileged that many of his long-standing clients chose to come along for the journey.
Today, as Founder and Managing Director, Lucas leads Fintor's team of financial advisers and mortgage brokers. He works across financial advice, mortgage broking, and SMSF and investment portfolios, bringing one coordinated team around each client so they have a single relationship for their whole financial life. He's especially proud to look after multiple generations within the same families.
His qualifications include a Master of Financial Planning, a Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance and a Diploma of Financial Services, along with SMSF and ASX Listed Securities and Margin Lending specialist accreditations. But what he values most is the human side. For Lucas, clients become family — he's part of the furniture — and there's no better feeling than helping the younger generation of those families find their feet.
Away from work, Lucas plays basketball and golf, once pulled on the boots for footy, and loves passing these passions on to his kids — even coaching some of their teams.

Justin Burke is passionate about making financial support easier to access, easier to understand and better connected across every stage of life.
Justin joined the Fintor team in February 2021, shortly after completing university. Since then, he has been given opportunities to build his knowledge across the financial services industry, including through his involvement in establishing Fintor Education. This experience strengthened his belief that meaningful financial education and support should be available to Australians across all levels of wealth.
As Operations Manager and Director, Justin works across Fintor's different service teams to help people collaborate effectively and provide clients with a coordinated experience. His day-to-day role includes supporting the operation of each team, progressing time-sensitive client requirements and helping turn financial goals into clear, actionable next steps.

Helping Australians at every stage turn financial plans into reality — with care, clarity and a Kiwi touch.
Tori Dunlop is the kind of person who notices the details that matter — the signature you forgot, the deadline you didn't know was coming, the question you didn't think to ask. As Fintor's Client Success Manager, she works alongside Lucas and the wider team to make sure every client's financial strategy moves smoothly from “great idea” to “done”.
Before joining finance, Tori spent four years with Mecca — first as a skin specialist, then as a manager — helping clients feel confident and well-looked-after. That experience taught her how to listen closely, explain things clearly and build trust, skills she now brings to implementation, SMSF administration and onboarding at Fintor. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Victoria University in Wellington and, while new to finance, hits the ground running thanks to her strong client-services background and two years in Australia.
Tori's specialty is asking the right questions and dotting every i so clients can focus on what they do best. She's especially passionate about supporting young professionals and families early in their journey, but she looks after clients of all ages with the same patience and care. Her approach is simple: make financial strategies accessible and understandable for everyone, no matter your background.
Outside of work, Tori's a country-girl-at-heart who loves camping, travelling, and keeping a dozen art projects going at once (a habit she inherited from her dad). She's also firmly convinced that New Zealand food and wine are unbeatable — and she's happy to debate that with anyone who disagrees.

Your go-to person for the whole financial picture — one call, one relationship, no wrong door.
Mireia Muller-Pallares believes financial life shouldn't feel like a maze you have to navigate alone — and that's exactly why her role exists.
Originally from New Zealand, Mireia spent three years working as an investment advisor for the New Zealand Government before a growing passion for financial education pulled her in a new direction. She began writing articles and creating content for financial advice firms and superannuation providers, helping everyday Kiwis understand their money in plain English. That work led her to complete her Level 5 Certification in Financial Advice in New Zealand, building on a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Political Science. After two years living in Spain, she made the move to Melbourne to join Fintor.
Today, Mireia is a Financial Guide for Who Says, Fintor's newest membership offering. She's the single point of contact for her clients — the person who holds the full picture of their financial roadmap and brings in the right specialist, whether that's a financial adviser, lender or insurance expert, exactly when it's needed.
What she loves most is helping people feel like they're not doing it alone. For Mireia, it's about keeping things simple and human — because good financial support is never just about numbers, it's woven into real life.
Outside work, Mireia — half Spanish, half Kiwi — can usually be found on the dance floor doing salsa, or on a very determined hunt for Melbourne's best parma.

Lending
Jake Smithers
Mortgage Broker
From captaining yachts to helping Australians find the right bank for their next big step.
Jake Smithers spent most of his twenties sailing around the world. These days, he helps people navigate something closer to home — the home loan.
Originally from Melbourne, Jake built a career on the water before joining Fintor casually on the side, curious about whether finance was something he could see himself doing long term. The answer came quickly. Giving up a career sailing people out to the Great Barrier Reef is a fair testament to how much the work grabbed him. Two years on, he holds a Diploma of Finance and Mortgage Broking Management and works full-time in Fintor's lending team.
Jake's job is to help people find the bank that genuinely suits their situation. Every lender reads a set of numbers differently, so he works through those differences to help clients understand their true borrowing capacity — and to look at what else might be available to them. Sometimes that's a home they assumed was years away. Sometimes it's funding a business idea, or the car they've been thinking about for a long time.
Outside of work, Jake's simply glad to be home. After years away at sea, being back in Melbourne means time with friends and family.

Christopher Valcanis
Parabroker
Turning a complicated deal into a simple one — across residential, investment and SMSF lending.
Christopher Valcanis is a Parabroker at Fintor, working across residential, investment and SMSF lending.
He completed a Bachelor of Commerce at Monash University before moving into mortgage broking, and in his first ten months in the industry he's built a solid track record handling a wide range of lending applications from inception through to settlement.
Christopher works with both PAYG employees and self-employed clients, helping them navigate everything from a first home purchase to an investment property or SMSF purchase. Where relevant, he also looks at government schemes that clients may be eligible for, to help make the numbers work in their favour.
What Christopher enjoys most about the job is turning a complicated deal into a simple one. Whether it's a first home buyer nervous about the process or an investor juggling multiple properties, he takes the time to understand what each client needs and works through the details, so they don't have to. Getting a client to the point of picking up the keys to their new home is what makes the job worthwhile for him.
Outside of work, you'll find him in the gym or on the athletics track.
